Priest advises Christians to live moderate lives at Christmas

Reverend Father Vitus Aditah, a Catholic Priest, on Christmas eve urged Christians to live temperate lives during the season and reject evil and worldly desires.

Preaching a sermon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral in Bolgatanga to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, he advised the congregation to avoid excessive lifestyles and expenditure.

He said excessive lifestyles were meant to impress people and not God and noted that Christ’s birth, in a manger, signifies humility, who was called Great Counselor and Mighty God.

He called on all Ghanaians to eschew desires that allowed corruption, alcoholism, immorality and deception, which did not lead one to God.

Rev. Aditah noted that churches were well attended at Christmas but at the same time vices such as sexual immorality and injustices increased as some people tried to get money through dubious means to celebrate.

That, he said, was not good and urged Christians to live moderately.

“If you are celebrating this Christmas minus Christ in your heart, then it is hollow, I urge you all to renounce every form of evil and unworthy passions”.

“If we repent and allow Christ to be our guide and Counselor, there will be great change in our lives… However if we continue to walk in our old ways it is better we do not celebrate Christmas,” he said.
