Akufo-Addo appoints Afenyo-Markin as ECG Board Chairman
Alexander Afenyo-Markin is Ghana’s newly appointed board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Afenyo-Markin already holds the position of Parliament’s Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu.
He was appointed by Ghana’s President Nana akufo-Addo, his appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the President’s Secretary Ambassador Nana Asante Bediatuo.
The new appointment marks a significant leadership change within the state-owned utility company.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin assumes this new role after the departure of Herbert Krapa, who has transitioned to the position of Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.

Herbert Krapa himself had assumed the office of ECG board chairman temporarily after the resignation of Keli Gadzekpo on March 26, bringing a period of interim leadership to an end.
The presidency perceives Afenyo-Markin’s appointment as a strategic move to leverage on his extensive experience and position within Parliament to steer the state owned company forward amidst ongoing challenges and changes within Ghana’s energy sector.
His appointment also intensifies the administration’s pledge to ensuring good governance and oversight at ECG, a significant company responsible for electricity supply across Ghana.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin is a seasoned lawmaker and lawyer by profession, he brings a wealth of knowledge in governance and policy-making to his new role, ECG Board Chairman.
He has played a significant role in shaping legislative agendas and policies in Ghana, making him a good candidate to guide ECG through its operations.
The Electricity Company of Ghana faces various operational challenges including infrastructure improvements, tariff adjustments, and customer service enhancements.
