Accra to Host Maiden African Festivals Summit & Expo Ahead of African Union Day 2026

The TERIA Foundation, in partnership with Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), has announced the maiden edition of the African Festivals Summit & Expo (AFRAVEX), scheduled to take place in May 2026 in Accra.
The event is part of the activities leading up to the celebration of African Union Day 2026.
AFRAVEX is designed as a groundbreaking continental platform that will bring together festival organizers, cultural institutions, tourism boards, creatives, policymakers, and Diaspora communities.
The summit aims to explore the role of festivals as drivers of cultural preservation, economic growth, and global connection, while highlighting the creative and cultural richness of Africa.
Operating under the theme, “Celebrating Africa and its Diaspora: Connecting the World through Festivals,” AFRAVEX seeks to foster collaboration, showcase innovation, and build a strong network within Africa’s festival ecosystem.
Objectives of AFRAVEX The summit is set to:
- Provide a unified platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices among festival organizers across Africa and the Diaspora.
- Promote tourism, culture, and the creative economy through festival-driven dialogues.
- Showcase cultural and creative innovations via a vibrant expo marketplace.
- Facilitate partnerships supporting festival funding, management, sustainability, and international visibility.
- Build a continental network that strengthens Africa’s festival ecosystem.
Expected Participants
The event will bring together festival directors, cultural and creative industry leaders, tourism boards, arts councils, ministries, Diaspora groups, NGOs, media agencies, and exhibitors, creating an inclusive space for cross-sectoral engagement.
