Extend tertiary application deadline for 2022 WASSCE graduates is the latest call coming from GTEC to all tertiary institutions in Ghana
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MoE) has been petitioned by Africa Education Watch to extend the tertiary institutions’ application deadline for next 2023 admission.
In a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com, the Executive Director of the Education think tank (EduWatch), Kofi Asare said the extension would give more students with pending WASSCE results to apply for tertiary admission.
“Dear Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the UG application deadline is just due. Some WASSCE results are incomplete. Kindly liaise with UG, extend the deadline or communicate the way forward to the public,” he said.
The Africa Education Watch Director petition comes after the management of the University of Ghana following the release of the 2022 WASSCE results said it will close the application portal at midnight on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
“The applications for 2022/2023 admission are still open and interested persons may purchase e-vouchers through the USSD *887*18# on all mobile telecommunication networks,” management of the Legon University said in a statement.
On the part of the Kwame Nkrumah Univesity of Science and Technology (KNUST), it has encouraged applicants to log into the University Admission Portal to confirm the accuracy of entries particularly Name, Date of Birth and etc.
In a statement shared with AcademicWeek.com, the management of the Science and Technology University said its admission portal https;// app.sknust.edu.gh will be closed at the close of work on Friday, December 9, 2022.
The WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022 (Ghana-only version), was administered to a total of 422,883 prospective candidates representing 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 Senior High Schools in the country.
A total of seven hundred and seventy-five (775) centres were used for the examination. Sixty (60) subjects, comprising four (4) core and fifty-six (56) electives were made available to prospective candidates to choose from.

The 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School which commenced on Monday, August 1, 2022, with the Visual Art Project Work options and end on September 27, 2022, with ICT Paper 3 Practical.
