UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE FINALS: Tottenham Hotspur End 17 Years Trophy Drought

The sporting dusk has settled in the San Mamés stadium, where English Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham locked horns for the finals of the UEFA Europa League.
At the end of the full 90 minutes of football action, London-based club Tottenham Hotspur were crowned champions after a late first-half goal from Brennan Johnson saw them win them game and lift a trophy after 17 years.
Football fans and pundits around the world tipped Manchester United to win this trophy, as they were still unbeaten in the Europa League competition. Tottenham Hotspur, also coming into this game, had won four of their last five games with Manchester United.
In the early minutes of the first half, Manchester United started as the favorites to win the game, doing all the attacking, with Tottenham also doing the defending, until Tottenham Hotspur got the match winner after the Manchester United defense failed to clear a cross from Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.
Manchester United fans expressed their feelings after the game and also disastrous campaign on social media, and this is what some of them had to say: “The house that Ferguson built reaches an all-time low. The worst season in Manchester United’s history.” Another said, “I love my team. We tried our best, though this season wasn’t written to be ours.” Another added, “I am so pissed because I actually said it: this team has nothing. Even the Manchester United women will win over these lads.”
