Mahama’ s 8th position ignited mockery from many especially NPP fans , with concerns that it might make it difficult for voters to locate him on the ballot paper, particularly for the elderly and uneducated . Some commented:
“NDC on the 8th position will make it difficult for people to locate Mahama on the ballot paper.”
“Aged people will find it lazy to vote down there; they only know number 1 and 2 on the ballot paper, and this will affect the NDC.”
However, some netizens from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cautioned against mocking Mahama, arguing that it unintentionally boosts his popularity.
One netizen said:
“Even the aged, uneducated, and others will get to see that Mahama is down there when you continue to talk about him.”
The Mahama campaign team responded with hashtags like “#8isenough,” “#makeghanagr8,” and “#breaktheir8,” “NDCwillstopthe8” emphasizing the number 8 as a good number chosen.
As one Ghanaian asked, “Aren’t NPP fans and NDC defenders unintentionally promoting Mahama by making an issue out of his 8th position?” Some netizens now urge NPP supporters to halt the mockery, recognizing it as a boost for Mahama’s popularity.
“Don’t mock Mahama for 8; it’s a way of making him popular,” warned another netizen.
