Minority promises to work with government but demand full accountability on 2026 Budget

The Minority in Parliament says they are ready to have open and productive conversations about the 2026 Budget but they will only back what truly benefits the nation.
The Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei gave the assurance during the opening of a post-budget workshop in Parliament on Friday.
Patricia Appiagyei, the one who spoke for the caucus, drew to attention that while the Minority are still committed to having meaningful conversation and it will also they’re pushing for everyone to be held responsible from government.
She made it clear that they won’t compromise on spending wisely and being open about it. Patricia Appiagyei stated that “We will hold the government to account for every cedi approved.”
The three-day workshop brings together Members of Parliament, technocrats, and policy analysts as they get ready for the next week’s formal debate on the budget. This kind of session will help the Members of Parliament (MPs) to understand everything better especially with the figures, policies, and economic assumptions which is included in the statement which was presented on Thursday by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
Dr Forson’s budget, the first full 12 month financial plan under his time in office. Dr Forson has already drew a lot of attention from the public especially around the top things the budget is spent on and the dedication of the government under the IMF programme.
Patricia Appiagyei said the Minority will look at each proposal based on its positive impact on ordinary Ghanaians. Patricia Appiagyei added that the caucus is going to support any measure that promotes economic stability, creating jobs and spending wisely.
