My govt will pay living allowances to chiefs — Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to give stipends to chiefs who actively participate in Ghana’s governance system if elected as president in the coming December 7th general election.
During the second stop of his “Bold Solutions Campaign Tour,” he gave an assurance to the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs that his manifesto team will create a strategy to guarantee that chiefs receive fair compensation for their positions.
Dr. Bawumia also argued in favor of changing the Chieftaincy Act to include chiefs in Ghana’s governance structure, stressing as a key issue the chiefs’ historical marginalization in the nation’s governance since independence.
He said “The major policy I aim to introduce is a review of Section 63(d) of the Chieftaincy Act, to empower the chiefs further, enabling them to assist the government more effectively in governance.
“The lack of authority makes managing your areas challenging. Therefore, we intend to amend the law to grant you more power,” he said.
“We will provide the chiefs with living allowances to ensure they have the necessary resources to perform their work,” Dr. Bawumia added.
Dormaahene, Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, the president of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, thanked the Vice President when Bawumia finished speaking and couldn’t contain his admiration for him. “Dr. Bawumia, you’re intelligent and respectful, but what’s even more impressive is that your remarks are devoid of offensive language and are respectful,” he said.
He also pleaded with Dr. Bawumia to expedite unfinished projects in the area and keep his word, which resulted in this year’s budget being approved as the country heads towards December polls.
Thanking the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Dr. Bawumia asked for their support in the upcoming December elections and reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of this nation.
