39-year-old man sentenced 21 months for stealing electrical cables worth GH¢195k

The Navrongo District Court has handed down a sentence to Felix Amoah, a 39-year-old resident of Doba in the Kassena Nankana Municipality for fifteen months and six months simultaneously with hard labour for power copper cable theft belonging to the Ghana Water Company.
HIS worship Famous Yao Amenyo, the district court’s presiding judge, stated according evidence before the court that, the convict, Felix Amoah was in Doba on October 13, 2023 when the theft took place. Felix Amoah actively participated in criminal damage and theft and is criminally responsible.
He said the convict provided contrary evidence which he later admitted following cross examination, that shows signs of stolen cable in his house in Doba. Famous Yao Amenyo also expressed that the convict did not mention any supportive assistance during the commission.
The available evidence through exhibits shows that Felix Amoah couldn’t have carried the stolen power copper cable to his house alone because of its quantity.
His Worship Famous Yao Amenyo imposed with a sentence to Felix Amoah to six months hard labor imprisonment on second count for compensatory damages and third count for fifteen months hard labor imprisonment for stealing, but the two sentences will run concurrently.
In addition to the sentences, Felix Amoah was also asked to return the stolen power copper cables to the Ghana Water Company, the party filing the complaint or pay the amount of the cables worth GH¢ 195,000.
The wife of Felix Amoah, Azamseyam Kadou who was also involved in the case was found not guilty and later freed after the available evidence suggested she had nothing to do with the power copper cable. Emmanuel Darko Nimako was the prosecutor in this case.
