Teacher puts the future of pupils in danger with RIDICULOUS ICT lesson
Not too long ago, an ICT teacher without the requisite teaching and learning materials was hailed as an icon and awarded by Microsoft when his lesson “Learning to double click” caught the attention of the world as he improvised stones for the clicking by the pupils who beamed with smiles. The GES chastised him for what they called “disgracing” Trending currently is an Information Technology teacher in the Dzriadogo Presby School in the Kpandai district in the Northern region who has become the talk of town for the wrong reasons.
A video circulating on social media about a teacher employed by the National Youth Employment has caused a lot of worry among stakeholders of education.
After this ridiculous ICT lesson, the questions that come to mind on this video is was this teacher interviewed before being employed to teach? This question has arisen because, the deficiency of such a teacher who apart from not having the pre-requisite knowledge to teach ICT, does not have command over the English language to drive home knowledge. Such a “horrible command” over the language would certainly affect the written and oral English of the pupils. This was more visible in the wrong spelling of the word “Creating” which was spelt as “
RIDICULOUS ICT lesson -The questions
The question is, what we are doing to the children of Ghana by providing teaching jobs to individuals who do not have the need qualification in the 21st within the civil service when several qualified and trained teachers are seeking for the same job. It is as though we have forgotten that the human resource of this der nation is the most important resource for developing this nation and must be left in the right hands.
There are teachers who have been “hanging” within the system all because, they went to upgrade themselves without permission or “vacated post” in the past. The bureaucracy and the middle men within the education system who get people hired may also be contributing to the challenge.
The video dis not only embarrassed the circuit supervisor, head teacher and pupils of the school but teachers in Ghana and the Ghana Education Service. What else can we expect from teachers who teach in schools that lack the needed classroom blocks? The Dzriadogo Presby School in the Kpandai district in the Northern has classrooms that do not qualify to be called as such 62 years after independence as a nation.
In the said video, the circuit supervisor had to come in to save the situation however, the question is, was he not aware of the dysfunctional teacher who had become a liability on government before the news item by myjoynews? What else can a teacher who is ill equipped do in such a situation?
According to the teacher, the children understand the lesson. Hmmm God be our helper as a nation. The entire school needs help from the government, the GES and NGOs to support the school with modern classrooms and a computer lab to help the pupils become computer literates. We as a nation cannot sit down aloof and watch our children get misinformed, confused and destroyed. Our education system and facilities must be given a facelift, especially in deprived areas to help bridge the gap between the cities and the hinterlands.
