She questioned why a section of students are in a hurry to see schools reopened so that they sit for their impending exams. In her view, the exams will be of no use because, schools that will admit those who qualify or pass the exams are also closed. She added that just in case you intend to use the results of the exams to seek employment, that is even not possible.
For those who have suggested the observance of safety protocols, she had this to say in the Akan language. “You say you will observe protocols, did France observe ballot boxes? We will not go to school today or tomorrow whether you like it or not. ”
It seems the intention of government to open schools in the not far future has more stakeholders kicking against it now. With school children joining the discussion and sharing their views, it is very important that the government takes a critical look at what needs to be done to safeguard school children and teachers.

Many of those who are calling for schools to be opened may not even be in the schools themselves. Hence the inputs of teachers, school owners, teachers unions, and government must lead to a common consensus if Ghana is to make any progress.
Emeritus Professor Stephen Adei added his voice to the heated debate and suggested that, teachers should be ready to forgo up to 50% of their salary if they refuse to return to school. This statement did not go down well will the hundreds of thousands of teachers who have bashed the educationists.
In some teachers’ quarters, a few have threatened to vote against the government if it goes ahead to open schools when the COVID-19 cases are still high in the country. The trending video of the schoolgirl may be speaking the mind and thoughts of many school children in Ghana.
