Breaking: Earth Will Get A Temporary Second Moon This Month
News coming in indicates that planet earth will get a temporary second Moon this month (September, 2024). This moon will be in existence for a couple of weeks and eventually vanish again.
According to report, this new “moon” is quiet different from Earth’s original moo. This second Moon is called a mini-moon. It’s actually a small asteroid that will temporarily orbit Earth until it leaves in late November.
The asteroid, which has been labeled 2024 PT5 is considered a “mini-moon.” It will enter Earth’s orbit on September 29, 2024, and stick around until November 25, 2024. Though it sounds amazing, this is actually not uncommon with small things passing close to Earth.

According to asteroid expert Professor Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, *2024 PT5* belongs to the Arjuna asteroid group. These are asteroids that have Earth-like orbits, about 93 million miles from the Sun. Sometimes these objects get caught by Earth’s gravity and, therefore, temporarily become what we call “mini-moons.”
It is so small and faint that from Earth, with amateur telescopes or a pair of binoculars, it will hardly be detectable. Professional astronomers with big and special equipment will observe it.
Although the asteroid won’t make a complete revolution around Earth like our regular moon does, it will temporarily share Earth’s orbit of the Sun. Scientists estimate *2024 PT5* will be moving at approximately 2,200 miles per hour at 3,540 kilometers per hour as it orbits Earth from about 2.8 million miles’ distance-or 4.5 million kilometers. Compared with most sightings, that might sound like a long way out; in space terms, however, it is relatively close.
It doesn’t pose any threat to Earth and will then just drift back into the void at the end of the month: Still though, it is too small and dim for amateur astronomers’ eyes but still attracted by lights from large telescopes which are used by pros.
What we have here is a mini-moon reminding us about how dynamic and amazing can be the universe, with always changing bodies and their relation to planet Earth still not fully understood.
